Common use

Premarin is a mixture of estrogen hormones which regulates development and functions of female reproductive system, formation of female secondary sex characteristics. On entering into the bloodstream it forms a complex with a specific receptor (in the fallopian tubes, cervix, excretory ducts of the mammary glands, vagina, urethra, breast, liver, hypothalamus, hypophisis), stimulates synthesis of DNA and proteins. It results in proliferation of the epithelium, increased sensitivity of the uterus and tubes muscles of to medications stimulatign their motility. This medication decreases bone resorption of Ca2 + in menopause, prevents involution of the genitals. Premarin is used to treat symptoms of menopause which include hot flashes, vaginal dryness, vaginal irritation and dryness, to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Replacement therapy in peri- and postmenopausal women, ovarian hypofunction (primary and secondary amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, dysmenorrhea) and other conditions.

Dosage and direction

Take this medication once daily as prescribed with a full glass of water with or without food. Premarin may be administered for a cyclic treatment which consists of 25 days on followed by 5 days. Do not take in larger amounts than prescribed. Individual dosage depends on your condition (for hypogonadism 0.3 mg or 0.625 mg daily, for preventing postmenopausal osteoporosis is 0.3 mg/day). Try your best to take it regularly to get the best benefit from it. Do not take with grapefruit juice, it increases levels of estrogen.

Precautions

Long-term treatment with Premarin may increase risk of breast cancer, endometrial hyperplasia, heart attack, or stroke so monitoring of the patient’s state should be done on a regular basis. This medication can be harmful to an unborn baby, do not use it during pregnancy. Do not use Premarin to prevent hart disease or dementia. To avoid endometrial hyperplasia you may be prescribed to take a progestin together with Premarin. Do not use this drug if you are under 18 y.o..

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, estrogen depending malignant tumors, undiagnosed genital or uterine bleeding, thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disease in active phase (excluding treatment of breast and prostate cancers). Cautiousness should be exercised in patients with thrombophlebitis, thrombosis or thromboembolism (while taking estrogens in history); family hyperlipoproteinemia, pancreatitis, endometriosis, gallbladder disease in history (especially cholelithiasis), severe liver failure, jaundice (including one during pregnancy in history), hepatic porphyria, leiomyoma, hypercalcemia associated with bone metastases caused by breast cancer, underactive thyroid, porphyria, endometriosis, asthma.

Possible side effect

You may experience symptoms of allergy (hives, rash, swelling face and tongue) and also chest pain or heavy feeling, sudden numbness or weakness, abnormal vaginal bleeding, migraine headache, confusion, jaundice, swelling in hands, ankles, or feet. If such symptoms are severe stop taking this medication and notify your doctor at once.

Drug interaction

Estrogens stimulate the liver’s ability to produce factors that promote the clotting of blood. Thus, concomitant administration of Premarin and warfarin (blood thinner) may cause decrease their effects. Barbiturates, Rifampin (Rifadin), phenytoin (Dilantin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), griseofulvin (Grifulvin), St. John’s wort and primidone increase metabolism of estrogens. Erythromycin, ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), and ritonavir (Norvir) act oppositely.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember about it. If it is almost time of your next dose just skip it and return to your regular schedule.

Overdose

Immediate medical attention in needed in case you overdosed intake of the medicine. Symptoms may include vomiting, nausea, and vaginal bleeding.

Storage

Premarin should be stored at room temperature, between 15-30 C (59-86 F). The right temperature to store the injection is between 2-8 C (36-46 F).

Common use

The main component of Fliban is flibanserin - 100 mg.

Flibanserin preferentially activates 5-HT1A receptors in the prefrontal cortex demonstrating regional selectivity, and has been found to increase dopamine and norepinephrine levels and decrease serotonin levels in the rat prefrontal cortex, actions that were determined to be mediated by activation of the 5-HT1A receptor.



Dosage and direction

Fliban is taken 100 mg orally once per day at bedtime in cases of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) treatment.

The onset of the flibanserin effect was seen from the first time point measured after 4 weeks of treatment and maintained throughout the treatment period. You should stop taking Fliban after 4 weeks if there is no improvement in symptoms.

This drug is not indicated to enhance sexual performance, and is not indicated for treatment in postmenopausal women or in men.

Treatment of premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) as characterized by low sexual desire that causes marked distress or interpersonal difficulty and is not due to a co-existing medical or psychiatric condition, problems within the relationship, or the effects of a medication or other drug substance.



Precautions

It is strongly recommended to consult your doctor or pharmacist before you start taking flibanserin and especially emphasize if you are allergic to this drug or if you have any other allergies.

You must not drink alcohol while taking Fliban. It may cause you to have dangerously low blood pressure.

Also you should not use Fliban if you have: low blood pressure, a history of alcoholism or drug addiction, liver disease, a history of depression or mental illness, or if you currently drink alcohol.

Some medicines can cause unwanted or dangerous effects when used with Fliban. Your doctor may need to change your treatment plan if you use any of the following drugs: nefazodone, ciprofloxacin, larithromycin, erythromycin, telithromycin, fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, boceprevir, telaprevir, conivaptan, diltiazem, verapamil, atazanavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir.

Flibanserin may impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery for at least 6 hours after you take this medicine, and until you know how this medicine will affect you. Dizziness or low blood pressure can cause falls or other accidents.

It is not known whether flibanserin will harm an unborn baby. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

It is not known whether flibanserin passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine.



Contraindications

Do not drink alcohol while taking Fliban. Drinking alcohol with this medicine can cause dangerous or unwanted side effects.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with flibanserin and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking Fliban.

Avoid taking herbal supplement containing: ginkgo biloba, resveratrol, St. John's wort.

Fliban is contra-indicated if patients taking another medicine to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder or using drugs against high blood pressure.

Fliban is not approved for use by men and children younger than 18 years old.



Possible side effect

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Fliban: hives, difficult breathing, your face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling.

Call your doctor at once if you feeling very drowsy or light-headed like you might pass out.

Common Fliban side effects may include: dizziness, nausea, fatigue, nausea, dry mouth, sleepiness or trouble sleeping.

In case you notice any of these side effects or other not listed above - contact your doctor or pharmacist.



Drug interaction

Taking this medicine with other drugs that make you sleepy or lower your blood pressure can worsen Fliban effect. Consult your doctor before taking Fliban with sleeping pills, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.

Tell your doctor about all your current medicines and any you start or stop using, especially: cimetidine, ginkgo biloba, resveratrol, St. John's wort.

Your doctor also may need to change your treatment plan if you use any of the following antibiotic, antifungal, antiviral, heart or blood pressure, HIV or AIDS drugs: nefazodone, ciprofloxacin, larithromycin, erythromycin, telithromycin, fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, boceprevir, telaprevir, conivaptan, diltiazem, verapamil, atazanavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir.

Missed dose

If so happened that you missed a dose - skip it and take the medicine the following day at bedtime. Do not take Fliban in the morning and do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.



Overdose

If you think you have used too much of Fliban - seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.



Storage

Store Fliban within the room temperature not higher than 77° F (20-25° C). Store away from moisture and heat. Do not store drugs in the bathroom. Keep all drugs out of the reach children and animals.

Common use Yasmin contains Drospirenone (a synthetic hormone progestin)and Ethinyl Estradiol and is used as a preventive drug to avoid pregnancy. It interferes with woman menstrual cycle and tricks the body as if ovulation has taken place even if it has not. So a ripened egg is not released by the ovaries. The drug changes condition of cervical mucus and uterine lining and hampers movement of sperm cells to the uterus and attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterus. Dosage and direction Start treatment on the very first day of your menstrual cycle and then take one pill daily. If you missed a daily dose take taking two pills as a single dose. Risk of your pregnancy increases if you miss more than one dose. Do not take other contraceptive pill concomitantly with Yasmin to avoid serious hormonal imbalance. Each pill contains 3.0 mg of drospirenone and 0.030 mg of ethinyl estradiol, while 7 'inactive' pills do not contain the hormones. Precautions Additional birth control methods (condoms or a spermicide) may be needed when you start to use Yasmin. Intake of hormones may increase the risk of blood clotting, heart attack, stroke, especially in the patients over 35 y.o. or smokers. Inform your doctor if you have problems with heart, blood pressure, congestive heart failure, angina, high cholesterol, depression in history, seizures or epilepsy, diabetes, gallbladder disease, varicose veins, tuberculosis, uterine fibroid tumors, a history of fibrocystic breast disease, nodules, lumps. Contraindications You should not use this medication in patients with hypersensitivity to the medication, undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding, breast cancer (known, suspected, or in history), known or suspected estrogen-dependent neoplasia, blood clots, myocardial infarction, pregnancy, breastfeeding, problems with liver, plague. The medication cannot be used in the girls who have not yet had their first menstrual period. Possible side effect Yasmin may increase potassium levels in some individuals, thus, women with kidney disease, liver bug, or adrenal disease should not be treated by it. Also some women may develop nausea, vomiting, weight gain, headaches, palpitations, fainting or dizziness, breast tenderness and enlargement, changes in the menstrual cycle, vaginal thrush, water retention in the body. More serious but rare adverse reactions include increase in blood pressure, depression, liver disorders and blood clots in vessels. Drug interaction There are drugs which can interact with Yasmin. Inform your doctor about all prescribed and over-the counter medications, herbal products and food supplements you use and especially about theophylline (Respbid, Theo-Dur), acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ascorbic acid (vitamin C), prednisolone (Orapred), St. John's wort, seizure medications, cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune), a barbiturate sedatives, HIV or AIDS medications, and antibiotics. Missed dose If you missed a pill risk of becoming pregnant increases. If you forgot to take one 'active' pill, take two pills as soon as you remember then return to your schedule. If you miss two 'active' pills in a row in first or second week of treatment, take two pills a day for two days in a row. Then return to your schedule. Use birth control test during seven days if such a 'mistake' occurred. If you miss two 'active' pills in a row during third week, or if you miss three pills in a row during any of the first three weeks, you need to start a new pack of pills as if you are a First Day starter. If you did not take three 'active' pills in a row during any of the first three weeks, start a new pack on the same day as if you are a First Day starter. If you skipped intake of two or more pills, you may not have a monthlies during this month. If you miss a period for two months in a row you might be pregnant. If you miss any reminder pills, throw the missed pills away and return to your schedule. Overdose Signs of overdose include nausea and vomiting, vaginal bleeding, increased level of blood potassium. Common use

Provera contains medroxyprogesterone acetate, female hormone used to regulate ovulation and menstrual periods. The medication is used to treat secondary amenorrhea and abnormal uterine bleeding caused by hormonal imbalance (fibroids, uterine cancer), to reduce the incidence of endometrial hyperplasia in postmenopausal women.

Side effects

The most frequent side effects of Provera are headache, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, drowsiness, fatigue, depression, nausea, abdominal pain, thrombophlebitis, cerebrovascular disorders, hypersensitivity nipple breast, galactorrhoea, erosion of the cervix, dysmenorrhea. High doses of the medication may produce acne, hirsutism, changes in body weight, moon face, hyperthermia, alopecia. Allergic reactions such as hives, rash, facial swelling and difficulty breathing are also possible.



Drug interaction

Aminoglutethimide reduces plasma concentrations and reduces efficiency of Provera. Inform your doctor about all prescribed and over-the-counter medications, herbal products, vitamins and food supplements you use.



Missed dose

Never take a double dose of this medication. If it is almost time of the next dose just skip the missed portion and continue to take the medicine according to the schedule.



Overdose
